Pupils in Year 9 and 10 will be singing The Armed Man by Karl Jenkins at Worcester Cathedral on Saturday 24th April. There will be a choir of 200+ singers performing with The English String Orchestra.

Next Teen Singer

Fantastic News: Emma Law has won first place in the national ‘Next teen singer’ online competition. You can check out the website on:

www.nextteensinger.com

Each week Emma was given a choice of songs to record. She used a webcam to record and then upload her entry for the next round. On the website each Monday you could watch the video recordings that each singer had made, then take part in the online voting. Voting closed at the end of the day each Monday. On the following Wednesday the singers found out whether they have made it through to the next round and are given the new choice of songs for the following week. This year singers again created their demo CDs in school which were auditioned for the first round of the competition. We are delighted that Polly Edwards went through to the final 24 of 100 entries. The final round was held at the Swan Theatre in Worcester and Polly did us proud! she won the category for Best Newcomer.
Any singers who would like to enter next year should see Mrs Masters in school. The first round usually takes place in January.

Singers in The Chantry Choir will once again be performing at Worcester Cathedral for this year’s M.E.C.A.P. carol concert. This will be our thirteenth visit for the M.E.N.C.A.P. concert.
The event culminates in a massed choir of childrens’ voices from a range of Worcestershire schools. Entry for the audience is free of charge however there will be a collection on behalf of M.E.N.C.A.P.
Pupils will rehearse at The Cathedral during the afternoon, returning to the cathedral for the evening concert at 6:45pm. Parents please note...it is a good idea to get there early as the seats fill up quickly!
It is expected that the concert will finish at around 8:30pm. Pupils will need to be in school uniform.

Vocal Masterclass

Some of our best singers have been chosen to take part in a vocal masterclass at Droitwich High School. Singers will learn stagecraft and vocal technique from professional artists in the music industry. Eleanor Latham and Alice Pearson will sing solo to a large audience of fellow singers.

This masterclass is part of the Worcestershire County Pop Icons event which will take place in the spring term 2010. Any singers who are interested in entering the main competition should see Mrs Masters or Mrs Norman for further details. You will need to create a demo track to send off to the judges.

Application forms are now available in school for our forthcoming Music Wars battles.
Any pupil can take part, want to know more? Check out last year’s Music Wars by clicking on the link at the bottom of the page.

Anyone can enter these competitions, entry forms are available from your form tutor or Mrs Masters in The Music Centre.
A panel of Celebrity teachers will judge the competitions in the main school hall. It is free to enter the competition, tickets to watch are 50p. this year we have introduces a £1 pass which is valid for all of the battles...so you get 6 battles for the price of just 2, and you’ll be raising money for Children In Need!

Over 400 pupils watched the battles last year...lets see if we can have even more this time round! Get involved!

Eco Project: 9 Malvern Make a Junk Band

During the summer term 9 Malvern have been making musical instruments from scrap.
They recycled old oil drums, bottles, drain pipes, pots, pans and many other items that would otherwise have gone in a skip.

London Mozart Players workshop

Musicians at The Chantry are in for a very special treat. Members of the London Mozart Players chamber orchestra will be coming into school to work with some of our students during the afternoon on 5th March 2009. LMP will perform to the students and then guide pupils through a piece to perform themselves.

The LMP will be sending an oboe player, clarinet player and a bassoonist; these are very experienced musicians who perform regularly at a professional level. As the orchestra’s name suggests, they specialise in performing music composed by Mozart but they also play music from other great classical composers such as Haydn, Schubert and Beethoven.
Mozart is regarded as one of the world’s finest composers of all time. He began performing to audiences at an advanced level from the age of 5. He was a child prodigy who could play a piece of music having only listened to it once! He also had some other talents such as the ability to write words backwards, fluently! Why not have a go at it ‘flesruoy’!
These composers still have their pieces played regularly across the globe and by a huge range of artists and ensembles...even though it is well over 200 years since the pieces were written!

LMP will be performing a concert in Little Witley in the evening on that day.

County Hall Carol Concert

The Chantry High School will be presenting a Christmas Carol concert for Worcestershire Councillors in the County Council chambers.
This is a very prestigious event and we are very pleased to have been asked to present this year’s concert.
Class 2 at Martley Primary school will join us to sing carols and 3 choral arrangements. Simon De Montford Middle School orchestra will also join us for this event.
